An Apple A Day

Mike got me a dehydrator for Christmas. How romantic, I know- but I was totally stoked. It is something that we have been wanting to get for a long time, but since finding out about Micaiah's allergies, we thought it would be especially useful. We made our first batch of dehydrated apples the other day. It was a fun family project and they came out great. Micaiah "asks" (points and signs" please") for an apple slice about a hundred times a day. It is nice to have a tasty, healthy snack that he can actually eat! We are excited to try drying other things in our Excalibur.

Even The Dog?

So apparently even our dog has allergies. I went in to wake Mike up for work the other day and found Bella at the foot of the bed. She isn't allowed in the bedroom due to Mike's allergies, so I hauled her out. I noticed that her eyes looked a bit funny but I thought at first that it was because she was still sleepy. A few minutes later I looked at her again and realized that her entire face was swollen. Both of her eyes were really puffed up, as were her jaw, throat, and lips. She looked like she had just gained about 100 pounds. Poor little thing. We called the vet, and it ended up taking 3 separate doses of 3 Benadryl tablets each, and over 24 hours, for the swelling to completely go down. It was crazy. We have no idea what she got into. She hasn't had anything new in her diet, and there aren't exactly a whole lot of plants in bloom this time of year- so who knows. She is back to her silly self now though, thanks to the Benadryl and lots of kisses from Micaiah.
